Baldness is an important aesthetic problem that especially affects men. Although male type baldness is rare in women, there may be hair loss in the form of hair thinning. Hair transplantation is the process of transplanting the hair follicles taken from back and sides of the head to areas where the hair is thinning which is often front, top and crown of the scalp.

There are three types of hair transplantation methods: FUT (Follicular Unit Transfer), FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) and DHI (Direct Hair Implantation). Today, the most commonly used method is the FUE technique. In the FUT method, the area where the hair is taken needs to be incised surgically, and then the incision is also stitched, so a scar occurs in the neck area. In the FUE method, hair follicles are taken from the nape area by a special motor and then planted in the channels opened to the recipient area. The DHI method is actually a variation of the FUE method and the hair follicles taken are planted immediately with a special pen, and in the FUE method, both the donor and the recipient area need to be shaved, while in the DHI method, only the donor area is shaved. However, the number of roots that can be planted in the DHI method is less. The DHI method is mostly preferred for women with severe hair thinning. The first washing will be done by the team performing the transplantation within 24 to 72 hours after transplantation, and then the scalp will be cleansed from scabs within 7-10 days by continuing to wash every day. A significant part of the first transplanted hair will be shed in about 1 month and then new hair follicles will grow over time. The areas transplanted will be covered with hair in 4 to 6 months after the procedure. It will take a year for the final shape to settle.
Hair transplantation can be applied to those with male pattern baldness problems and to adults who have regional baldness problems due to accidents or burns. For an ideal transplant, the amount of hair in the neck area of the person should be sufficient.
Hair transplant is an invasive procedure that requires sterile conditions. Therefore, it must be done in health institutions and under the control of a doctor.
It may have undesirable consequences such as infection, tissue death, and unsuccessful transplantation.
Care should be taken in the first period after hair transplantation when the hair is crusty. This period lasts about 7 to 10 days. The patient can easily return to normal life when the crusts fall off.
There are no obvious scars in the FUE method. In the FUT method, a scar in the form of a line can be left in the neck area.
